Mechanical Articles - 8 inch rear end gears

2:79 Gears: My 73 Maverick came stock with this gear and was great on the highway, terrible for fast pickup.

4:11 Gears: I had Richmond 4:11 gears in my Maverick, but going down the highway was a nightmare. Part of the problem probably was I'm still using a C4 transmission with a shift kit. If I had some type of overdrive, I may have been all right. I ended up changing to a 3:55 gear.

3:55 Gears: I decided later to change to Richmond 3:55 gears. Also I was able to find a used Posi Differential from a fellow mavericker. This is one job I didn't what to do myself. So I sent the car out to a shop that specializes in building drag cars. They did a great job. The 3:55 gear is much better on the highway(about 2800 rpm going 65). Not nearly as nerve racking as the 4:11. Remember that I have a C4 transmission and P275/60R15 tires on the back.
