#1 Fro 691/2 wiper knob
Ok I have a crazy question, when we bought our 70 Maverick in 1995 it was in extremely good condition all original, the interior was perfect gold plaid, the original owner had passed away at the age of 90 something and her son had the car and hadnt touched it, we bought it. It had this weird little knob on the windsheild wiper switch which was painted the same color as the dash. A few days later i noticed a small sealed bag in the ashtray that had two knobs in it, the bag was sealed and had a Ford number on it but I didnt keep the bag and dont remember the number, here is a pic of the other two knobs, one normal and one strange, has anyone ever seen or heard of this?

If I had to speculate, I would say the knobs were changed by the previous owner because at night, and even during the day for that matter, the knobs "feel" the same. I would guess the owner was turing the wrong knob when trying to turn on the windshield wipers. Probably changed the knob so that the wiper knob had a different "feel'. The factory did changed the shape of the wiper knob is the later years....maybe due to this problem.

I guess I could see that, but the Ford package still messes with me, the correct knob was never installed, anyway I was just curious.

I would speculate that the correct knob was installed at the factory. That knob possibly got broke off byt the former owner. A new factory knob was ordered, but a different knob was installed in the meantime. When the new knob arrived, it was put in the ashtray, as the owner liked the "makeshift" aftermarket knob. We may never know. It would be interesting to find out for sure.
