bored and passing thru craigslist,....I came across an ad for a comet,....yep, my first one was up for sale again,...didnt look like a thing had been done since I first sold it, other than a few parts missing, but definitely the same car,....I text the guy,....it was gone,..and it had made its way back to within about 15 miles of my house. now its in another town in eastern iowa, unfortunately the seller didnt have the buyers info to pass my number along to. its probably just as well,...however, I would like to have it back in a way since I know the cars complete history and mileage, and I bought it originally from my grandmother. but seeing the pics,...cant help but feel a bit nostalgic . |

I had the same thing happen to with me on my first car, but it was not a Maverick. It was a 1968 Ford Galaxie Convertible. I was driving down the road, looked over and saw a car that kind of looked like mine that I had sold 15 years ago. I turned around and went back to get a closer look. It was in fact my old car. While it looked different, there were tell-tale signs it was my old car. I seriously thought about leaving my phone number and seeing if I could buy it back. It was red when I had it. It is now green. |

Now leap ahead a few weeks. The car was still in the back of my mind. I just had to try and buy it back. I went back by the same spot and this is what I found: 22" wheels, rear quarters cut with a saws-all in order to get the wheels on the car. Well...that dream was dashed. :( So, I bought a Mustang convertible instead. :) |

That is hideous. Chris, if the car hadn't sold yet, would you have bought it? |

craig- it wasnt my first car, but it was my first mav/comet, and it was special because I bought it from my grandma, she bought it I think in 79? with about 15k miles on it, I got it from her at about 30k miles. yes I've got a few pics, just need to dig them out, it was a pretty sharp color combo. Matt=I asked myself the same question,....as much as common sense told me let it go, as I've had the chance to get it back a couple of times before over the past couple of years from a few different owners,...and since my grandma has passed I would have really had a time trying to figure it out. if I'd just get busy my 72 would be done, and having yet another distraction probably wouldnt help. and knowing the car,.....I know I'd have to redo darn near everything......but I might have still :?: |
