| Were there just three different dome lights offered in Mavericks or four? I know there are two different versions of the rectangular one that have a different bulb and wiring but look the same (at least, I think they look alike - correct me if I'm wrong). Were there also two different versions of the one with the map lights? I believe that type of dome light pre-dated the Maverick and was around until after the square dome light changed, so I'm wondering if there are two versions of that one also. | |||

| I have only seen one version of the dome light with map lights. Map lights would have been part of the LDO package, which would have came out in spring of 1972. | |||

That makes sense.. The map light did pre-date the Maverick in other vehicles though didn't it? Or did it not come out in any Ford until 72? Are they interchangeable with 70 and 71 cars? Looking at the later dome light I have, seems like the way the wiring hooks up would be a problem with the where the screws would go in my 71. It's always confused me when I look at it, and I forgot to look at the one in the 77 before I scrapped it. I'm probably over-complicating it as usual. :D |

When installing a dome light with map lights, the wiring harness going to the light needs to be changed. There is a "hot" wire that goes to the map lights so one can turn on the map lights anytime, not just when the door is open. :D |

| Yeah that part I knew. Just for my curiosity, can you post a pic of the roof area showing the mounting area for the light on a 72 and up car (without the bezel installed). I haven't bee able to find any. | |||

I could help you out,..... but will I?:evil: no, no headliner,.... but I'm going to have to look when I get home tonight to see what I have in where the stock stuff was. not saying its different, but it sure could be since that little thing I did to the roof (chop)(remember?) :thumbsup: |

I do remember that I had to drill different holes in order to mount the plastic "nubs" of the wiring harness. Had to be careful not to drill through and then ram the roof with the drill bit, or worse yet, drill a hole in the roof of my freshly painted car. The "nubs" (don't you love my techincal terms) are what the screws from the light housing go in to. I cut out and saved the roof rail portion of the roof from which I took out the map lights. This gave me the "pattern" on where to drill the holes. If you email me to remind me, I will get a picture. craig@maverickcorral.com |

Here is what it looks like. The diamond shaped holes is what I had to drill. A round hole will also work.

| Ok that makes total sense now. Thanks. Without the larger holes, the screws that hold the hot wires would short when they screwed into the holes in the ribs. That's what I was thinking I would need to do to be able to use a newer dome light.. Guess I should have just gone with my gut. :p | |||
