I finally called March again last week about my crummy AC bracket. I really just called to get the part# so I could make sure I was ordering the right thing - I had already given up on getting it replaced under warranty since I bought it three years ago. He gave me one part # then realized I just needed the one piece and gave me another part# and a much cheaper price. Jegs and Summit don't carry the individual pieces, so I ordered direct from them. Shipping and handling was not so nice. :eek: Anyway, here are some comparison pics of the old and new brackets. I wonder if I ordered 10 of these how much variance there would be. Maybe the guy making the first one was having a bad day? First the front of the bracket. Note how much higher the hole is in the old bracket:  Now a couple of shots of the back side of the bracket. The holes where the two halves bolt together are about centered on the new one.. Maybe there jig is just worn out? :?:   The compressor mounting hole in the new one is still not perfectly true, but is within .020", compared to about .105" on the old one. Here's hoping it is enough to make a difference. |

| Well, still no AC love for me. :mad: Not sure the root problem, or if it's multiple problems. Did still have to have spacers behind the bracket for belt alignment. Main problem I think is that the compressor mounting hole is a bit big in diameter, so the compressor can wobble, and there is just enough clearance that it can't be tightened down enough to stop it. Belt is staying on, but the compressor rattles like mad when the RPM changes and is causing the belt to shake. I don't think belt tension is the issue because the compressor vibration was worse was I made the belt tighter. I could probably use the AC, but this is not acceptable. :banghead: | |||

For those that weren't at the Gathering and don't already know.. My woes get worse. I was showing some folks the play in the compressor mounting and the vibration when the rpm changes when one of the fittings on the high side decided to start leaking. So I pulled the belt off while all of my freon leaked out. :cuss: I need to call March back again and get an RMA for one or both of these brackets and give them a piece of my mind. I may still try a larger bolt or have Jeff machine it for a bushing, or just get a bracket made that I can use with my factory compressor bracket to adapt the serpentine idler and the tensioner. |

If I can't get March to fix their crap ( it's their job to sell a product that actually works, or figure out why it doesn't and fix it) that's what I'm going to have to do. Except I'll probably have to have some else do it, as I don't have the mad fabbing skills of some on here.. :p It's a bit of an over-simplification to say make one with better tolerances. :nana: |

Except I'll probably have to have some else do it It's a bit of an over-simplification to say make one with better tolerances. doesnt look like what you said,...."I'll have to have someone else do it",...:p and if March has a variance of .105" or whatever it was,I'm pretty sure you could get closer than that just eyeballing it. :thumbsup: how can they make stuff that out of whack? seriously, a piece of metal, measure, mark,drill holes,...I guess I dont see why its so hard, I made the brackets on the 77 because I couldn't get factory crap to line up for how I configured it, I never had any belt alignment issues, or threw any belts with the occasional romp on the pedal , but mine only rev'd to 75 or so, not like your pro stocker :eek::p I'm making the brackets on the boss as well, figure something out ,send me a pattern or steel copy and I'll throw one together for ya. |
